Principal's Corner
Dear Badger Rock Community,
On behalf of the staff at Badger Rock Middle School, I would like to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year. We have been working hard to ensure that this upcoming year is filled with deep and meaningful learning opportunities to help our scholars rekindle a love of learning after what has been a challenging time for many.
This year’s academic theme will be Land and Community. Students will study the ways in which our collective wellbeing as individuals and in communities is deeply connected to our relationship with the land. Together we will engage in a number of student-centered student learning experiences utilizing project and place-based learning strategies with a focus on social and environmental justice. The theme of Land and Community will also allow for us to fully maximize our longstanding partnership with our phenomenal onsite farm team at Rooted.
Speaking of land, if you drive by our physical location, you will see lots of changes afoot. Construction on the new Southside Elementary School has begun and it will mean many changes for us as we engage as learners this year. We will need to be flexible and see the possibility that each challenge brings us. Look for more communication soon about how this will impact our daily operations at Badger Rock.
We have had some other changes as well. I would like to welcome the following incredibly talented new staff members to Badger Rock:
Science: Kate Abitz and Dawn Liska-Tollefson
English, Language Arts: Aly Weier
Spanish: Jonathan Daugherty
Front Office: Sara Rodriguez
Each of these individuals brings a wealth of experience and will be invaluable additions to our Badger Rock community.
We are also excited to continue our tradition of CommUNITY dinners the first Friday of each month here at Badger Rock where students, staff, families, and our community partners come together providing a joyous forum for students to showcase their learning, to practice real world skills such as selling their produce or cooking for the community dinner, and to be celebrated by the families and the community. Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss these fun, family friendly evenings. First dinner of the 2022-23 school year will be held Friday, September 9th from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
Together, we are committed to building our collective partnership so we can do our very best to live up to our founding vision of fostering environmentally responsible, justice-oriented problem solvers and lifelong learners.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out (608) 514-1974 or jldomini@madison.k12.wi.us.
Warmly,
Jamie Domini
