Anti-Bullying

Parents/guardians can verbally report concerns about bullying and/or harassment to school staff or can access the “Bullying/Harassment Reporting Form” form online. The completed “Bullying/Harassment Reporting Form” may be submitted to any staff member at your child’s school. Upon submission, school staff will promptly conduct a bullying/harassment investigation.

If you would like your child to receive support from a Student Services professional at your child’s school, please contact your school’s Social Worker or Psychologist. Parents/guardians of students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning can seek additional support through MMSD’s LGBTQ+ Teacher Leader, John Peschl (he/him), at jcpeschl@madison.k12.wi.us.

MMSD’s Anti-Bullying and Harassment Policies and the Behavior Education Plan (BEP) prohibit bullying on “all school and district grounds and in all school and district buildings; at all school and district-sponsored activities; and on all vehicles used for transportation to and from school and school sponsored/district-sponsored activities.”

While the BEP does not apply to acts of bullying and/or harassment that occur off school property and outside MMSD authority, we recognize that such incidents impact our school community. School staff are available to support our students.

Per MMSD policy, you will be contacted by your student's school before the investigation is completed. Once the investigation is complete, you will be notified of whether the report was found to be bullying/harassment. Staff will immediately communicate with families about interventions and/or safety plans to support your child and check-in within a few weeks after the incident.

All feedback will be routed to the appropriate district team members, who will follow up with you. This is a new platform, and we appreciate your patience and feedback as we build it out to serve you better.

Navigating Complex Issues – The Request for Assistance system is in place to support schools to address elevated student-centered concerns, specifically concerns a school has failed to resolve or did not resolve to your satisfaction. If you have not yet spoken with your principal, return to the Let's Talk page, select your school, document your concern, and expect follow up from the principal. If you have already spoken with your principal but they failed to resolve your concern, fill out the form below.  

Once submitted, your request will be reviewed and routed. School-based concerns are sent to the principal to resolve, with a district leader assigned to support. Depending upon the context of your concern, you can expect follow up from either your principal or a member of our district leadership team.
